What are the sizes?

Pins and caps consist of two parts as the name suggests. The cap always has a head diameter of 12 mm and is suitable for the following pin parts: 5 mm / 10 mm / 12.5 mm / 15 mm / 17.5 mm / 20 mm / 25 mm / 30 mm. Both pin and cap need to be ordered separately.

Double rivets consist of two parts: cap and pin. These need to be ordered separately. This way, different combinations can be ordered such as a pin with open or closed cap. Cap-parts are available in a head diameter of 7 mm and 11 mm and can be combined with pins of 8 mm, 10 mm and 12 mm. You will find all available sizes in our webshop.

Automatic rivets, also called folder rivets, are available in several sizes that can be found in the webshop. The cap diameter exists in 7 mm and 8 mm, the most common lengths vary from 5 mm to 8 mm and the shaft has a size of 3.5 or 4 mm, depending on the chosen rivet.

Which materials exist?

Pins and caps, double and automatic rivets are available in several metal models including brass plated, nickel plated, black zinc plated and white. If your desired colour is not included in our webshop, please contact us for another model or for lacquering a rivet in any RAL colour.

Usage & Assembly

Pins and caps are extremely suitable for keeping swatches consisting of bundles of fabric together among others. These rivets consisting of two parts are relatively ease to assemble by means of a plastic hammer or with manual rivet tool. This is why it is are also called a manual rivet.

A double rivet is used when a more permanent fixation of for example handles is needed. This consist of a cap and a pin. They can be assembled by means of a press in combination with matching tooling.

An Automatic rivet is also suitable for permanent fixation of handles, but also for assembling mechanisms into folders for example. This is why it is also called a folder rivet.

They are assembled by means of a press and matching tooling. This could both be a manual press and automatic press. In most cases however, an automatic rivet is assembled with an automatic press. Their advantage is that they are easy to fix since they only consist of one part of which the ending is rolled over to fix the rivet onto the application.

FAQ on Rivets

Here are several frequently asked questions listed. Can’t find your question? Please do not hestitate to contact us.

What is the difference between the three types of rivets?

Pins and caps, also called decorative rivets, are mostly used in combination with fabrics, while a double rivet and automatic rivets are more suitable for assembly a variety of applications .

Pins and caps (2 parts) can easily be assembled by using a plastic hammer or a manual rivet tool.

Double rivets (2 parts) are best assembled by means of a press and matching tooling. Automatic rivets are ideal for automatic assembly since they only consist of one part.

Which presses do I need for the different types of rivets?

A press is not required for assembling pins and caps. Double rivets need to be assembled with at least a manual press and automatic rivets are mostly assembled by means of an automatic press.

What is particularly important is that the right type of tooling is chosen per type of rivet and that these match the press to be used. For an advice on the various sizes and types please contact us directly.

Which rivet capacity do I need for my application?

For the right capacity you first measure the total millimetres that need to be overcome. Regarding pins and caps and double rivets, the pin is pressed into the cap by some millimetres.

You should calculate the thickness of your application + about 3 mm for assembly. Automatic rivets consist of one part that is seamed about 3 mm during assembly. So for this type of rivet you also need the capacity + 3 mm extra for assembly.
